For me I would just get a replacement model. We bought our washer/dryer as a pair from HD over two years ago and have loved them both. The washer has been flawless and yes we have a model affected by the recall. I would not want to go find another unit from another manufacturer that won't match especially since our units are on the main floor off the kitchen hallway. I'd just assume get a new version with the issue fixed, because having someone repair would leave me worried it would then break because we have used ALL the cycles at one time or another with no issue.

Samsung exploding washer

CPSC Warning: Samsung Washing Machines Are Exploding

People who own one of the top-loaders can get a free in-home repair, which includes a one-year warranty extension. (This option isn’t available now for mid-control models, Samsung said.) < I am confused can someone explain? What are mid-control models?

"Samsung takes its revolutionary activewash™ Top Load Washer to the next level by introducing a completely new Mid Control design, putting the washer’s entire control panel flat and within easy reach on top of the machine. This stunningly sleek and contemporary design is as innovative as the cleaning technology inside. In addition to its more optimal positioning, the Mid Control Panel offers a new, intuitive, digital touchscreen control panel that is seamlessly built into the lid."

We are supposed to be a society concerned with the environment but what good is saving a couple gallons of water when they engineer everything these days to fall apart after 5 years, thus you have to haul all this metal to the dump and half the time it will not get recycled properly... how much electricity does it take to construct all this disposable garbage versus buying something quality built and keeping it 15 years... well I guess I have myself to blame.. I could get a speed queen but don't want to spend a thousand bucks on each unit... I'll spend half that amount on a maytag. I only have myself to blame.

Oh i forgot to mention for those who are going for the rebate don't expect to get money out of Samsung very fast. the form I have said 4-6 weeks before you get a check from them. So those who expect a quick turnaround make sure you can cover the cost. It reminds me of sending in the eye contact rebate and crossing my fingers they actually send me the money.

Yes one has to pay first out of your own pocket and within 1 to 3 month you receive your rebate. Sadly not enough to cover for a new one. Mine was almost $ 1000.- and there is no way I will get even half

As I said in Canada we had no incident YET and my machine works perfectly on all cycles.

Lucky for us we are having Black Friday sales so I've been able to find some pretty good deals on our replacement. But without the discount we would have been out of pocket a lot as well.
