Light bulbs for ceiling fan

I went to HD yesterday - FINALLY tracked down someone in another dept. to ask a question about it because none said ceiling fan bulbs - he told me I could use Appliance Light bulb. I bought two of those, put one in, in works fine, thank goodness (it dims and is a GE - thanks for the tip on not getting Phillips, I had an issue w/them for my outside porch light).
