How may BTU*ductless mini-split*is needed to heat a well insulated 1000 sq. foot basement? (say averages mid to high 50's now, and would like to get it to 70?)

some have said 15 btu per 1000 sq ft, others 30?

I coarsely modeled your basement for a relatively cold region...DC and your loads are 7400 btu/hr for heating and 4800 btu/hr for cooling.

That's phenomenal. How did you come up with that? Suffice to say that a 9000 - 3/4 ton is sufficient? Deciding on 9 or 12K.

Right-J: ACCA Manual J Load Calculation Software

If you oversize a bit you'll have a reserve for humidity issues or thermal mass. I go with a 12k.

Thanks. Seems the software is for purchase so I'll trust your usage of it and thank you at the same time. Believe this also reaffirms that 18K is too much I'm assuming.

does anyone have experience with the electric expense of ductless vs window units? i need to get something for a new office and everybody loves the ductless but window units are much cheaper to buy and install. the only factor that would change my mind is if ductless saves enough energy to make it the more economical option. are the electric savings considerable over window units?
