Home repairs forum? You mean like the one we are in now? Yes they should make a forum just like this one.

Your probably talking the Abus style locks, round, when you turn the key the bolt slides either in or out either closing or opening the space so you can lock or unlock the lock.

No codes on those locks. Most companies don't list the code. Master lock has a code you can clean off. It is recommended to get rid of the code. If you leave it then anyone can go to the locksmith and have them make a key. If someone supplies a code to me I would make it.

Without the original information from the manufacturer the locks are useless to the consumer. I don't mind them as I like to make keys for them😀

Locks can be disassembled and rekeyed for any spare keys lying around. There are youtube rekeying videos, or ask somebody who does that type of tinkering.
