I ordered a rather expensive bookshelf. And it has me irritated. Could use some advice the best route how to assemble the rest together. My mom was helping me put it together. The wood dowels that came with it were loose in the hole and some had broke when trying to put the pieces together. We couldn't find the wood glue right away and my mom didn't have the patience to wait and go to the store.
So, we ended up a shortage on wood dowels. After looking a few hardware stores, I bought 2 different brands. They were tight fitting. Is it okay for the wood dowels to fit tightly?
I called the company where I bought it from and they couldn't help me because I had ordered it from the hardware store directly on a website that sells that line of products.
Dowels are suppose to fit snugly, otherwise your shelves will eventually drop. I glue mine in if the shelves are going to be permanently in one location.

My mom's thinking was with the screws locking the shelves in place after the dowels were put in that the bookshelf will be fine. Most of the dowels that were used that came with the package were loose fitting. Does that make it any difference if the shelves will eventually drop?

Is it the shelf that has a metal stud and then a twist loc on the other panel locking them together? You're probably using the dowels in the wrong holes. The Fidel's locate the pansies the twist loc connectors hold it tight.
Let's just say that the unit was put together hastily. If it lasts a year you probably got your money's worth. Let's just hope that it doesn't injury anyone between now, and then.
