How do you do this? I've Googled it and I know it says that if the pattern repeats itself, it's probably laminate, but I still can never tell.

Can you tell which this home has?
125 Arden Dr, Shaler Township, PA 15116 - realtor.com®
The listing says "gleaming hardwood floors." But on Zillow under interior features, it says the flooring is carpet, tile, and laminate.

Looks like an engineered wood flooring.

Doesn't look like solid hardwood, based on the molding details at the baseboards, and the "stops" installed between rooms. I'd guess from here that it's an engineered wood laminate, and a decent job of it. Laminate doesn't necessarily mean "cheap" or bad - it just means not solid hardwood. It doesn't look like a negative based on the pics.

The only thing I would construe from the "stops" or thresholds between the rooms is that they're very flat, which would be more in line with laminate flooring. I have high thresholds between all my rooms and my flooring is 90 year old heart pine.

It might be more difficult to do with a photo, but it is pretty obvious when you are looking at the floor in person.

Engineered vs solid hardwood can be a lot harder to tell, unless it is that "hand scrapped" engineered that was so popular for awhile.

It looks like Laminate or Vinyl Plank to me.

Interesting. I thought it was laminate too. It's surprising for a home this age. I assumed every room would have originally had hardwood floors. Maybe at some point the floors were beyond repair - so they just put laminate over it?
Honestly, I think it's beautiful and wouldn't have cared that it was laminate except that I've read about toxins in laminate and the glues that are used.

Yeah, I hadn't read this online before but it seemed to me like laminate is usually thinner looking. Is that what you mean by very flat?

What is different about the stops between rooms for laminate vs. hardwood?

The MLS states hardwood so it is probably engineered wood flooring not laminate. The wood threshold dividing the two rooms can't in my opinion be seen clearly enough to determine if flat or slightly raised. If I had them installed I would have not had the threshold and run the floors continuously through but perhaps there as a slight leveling issue between the two rooms that made that necessary. They look beautiful in the pictures.
