We have a newer French door refrigerator from GE in the home we moved into earlier this year. It has a water line to an ice maker, but does not have a water dispenser either inside or outside the refrigerator. Can a water dispenser be added to the refrigerator or not? We went into Home Depot and the guy there said it was impossible, but I also know that not everybody at Home Depot is an expert, so wanted to check elsewhere.

And, no, there is no outlet for water (i.e., the typical fridge) that a water line could be connected to on the outside, so that probably precludes a water dispenser on the outside of the fridge.

Thanks

Yes, possible. You just have to rebuild the fridge.
No, from a price perspective.

Buy a new fridge.

Some fridges had different options- did your model possibly come with that option? If so, then the answer would be a somewhat "yes".

But, as dave said the cost would probably be prohibitive due to practically rebuilding the fridge.

Sell the fridge and buy what you want. Even if it could be done, you would need a new door accommodating the dispenser. Someone will like your fridge as is and you can use the money to buy new.

Answer is yes.

But if you have to ask if it can be done?..... You dont have the mechanical skills to hack apart the fridge to add it yourself.

You can put a superchaarged v8 into a car that had a v4 but dont ask the chevy dealer to do it. You need a mechanic to hack it completely apart and put it back together. Get it?

Original post is from last year, I'm sure the poster has seen the light and either bought a new fridge or decided he can live without a water dispenser.
