Hi All,

The wife and I have been debating about the type of windows that we'd like to replace in the home.

We have a colonial style home and I'm in the colonial grid camp.

I simply can't see how prairie windows look good on a colonial home. Maybe I don't have the vision or maybe someone here can convince me.

The other option is to be gridless altogether.

I think a colonial style home should have "colonial styled" windows.
They were usually 12over12, 9over9, or 6over6. That would normally be decided by the actually size of the window.

As far as the actual "window" which way are you thinking- GBG, SDL, TDL, or snap-in's?

Only reason they originally had divided lites is because it was too expensive to use a single big sheet. Go with no grids, let the light in.

I have a home with grids and hate it. Give me pure clean window to look out of and enjoy the view.

That's certainly a stretch of the somewhat truth...

No grids at all. I don't like looking through them and the grids can get damaged or warped if they are in hot direct sunlight.

You might try the 6 over 1 window style

I don't like them but I would put the colonial grid windows in a colonial home.

Huh? This I gotta see!

It's kinda hard to get damaged if it's GBG. An aluminum strip doesn't warp; nor does a PVC strip. And I think you'd be hard pressed to find a TDL with warped mullions; regardless of its environment.
