I've never noticed my toilet reservoir spontaneously refilling and my water meter isn't slowing spinning, so the issue can't be too bad. My wife and I just got back from a 4 day trip and I'm wondering if we have a very slow leak. I made sure to close off the water valve to the house before we left (didn't want to come back to a flooded house) and as I opened the valve, I heard some water flowing through the pipe.
My wife said she heard the toilet slowly refilling for about 6 seconds which would probably be about a pint of water. She thought it was a little strange because our other toilet in the house was perfectly fine. We've never heard the toilet refilling without being flushed, and the waterline in both the bowl and tank seem constant. Should I be concerned? Thanks in advance.
A couple of drops of food dye in the tank will tell you in short order if you have a leak. Needless to say do not flush after you put the dye in until you get time to see if it leaks into the bowl.

Thanks. I feel foolish for not thinking of that earlier.
I had a builder-installed toilet with a tank for a 12 inch rough-in where the actual rough-in dimension was 10 inches. So the tank was tight against the wall and not level and as a result the flapper didn't seat right and leaked just a wee bit. I upgraded to a Gerber Avalanche with a 10 inch rough-in; no more leak.
My water bill has quadrupled since June 2017. October bill I did nothing. The last bill in Dec was $274! I am the only person in the house. I called the water company last week and they sent a tech out. I have 4 toilets and none of them were running. He checked the water level and did the dye test. All 4 toilets leaked dye into the bowl. He said I needed new flappers and the water level adjusted in the tanks. I actually heard one of the toilets fill quietly about 5 mins after it was flushed, because the water level went down. To think this was going on constantly in all toilets without my notice!
"the flapper didn't seat right and leaked just a wee bit."
I am in awe of your unintentional pun.
When I hear of bad flappers, my mind goes immediately to F Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda.
