I rent from my father apartment.. (There used to be a tenant but they moved out, so I decided to buy the lease and rent the apartment.) Its my own apartment and I pay the rent and hydro is included. However my apartment is at 67F constantly. Is that a low temp for a home? Or is it good?
Thanks!
It all depends on you. We do 59-63 during the winter, but that is only because of the wife. I could do mid-50s and be OK.
I can’t imagine keeping heat under 70. I liked to walk around the house In tank tops, shorts and barefeet. I have learned not to visit people in winter who skimp on heat.
I wouldn't call it skimping on heat not to keep the house warm enough in winter to wear clothes meant for summer. Anything higher than 70 on the heat and I become very uncomfortable - the forced air heat dries out my skin, eyes, and nose, causing me to sneeze.
My heat is set at 60 when I’m not home and 65 when I am home. If I get chilly, I put on a heavier sweater.
At night, the heat is set at 60. I sleep better breathing cooler air, but also like to be cozy warm. I turn on my electric blanket to warm up the bed, then turn it off once I’m in there.
In the summer, the AC is off when I’m gone and set around 75 or 78 when I’m home. Even then, I might turn it off.
I keep mine at 63 in the winter. Plenty comfortable in a sweatshirt, I don't need to wear shorts around the house in January. I think I keep it at 74 in the summer.
Mine is on 72. I insist on being maximally comfortable at home, which means I can go shirtless, barefooted, and wear shorts inside. As Granny says, “I work too hard to have to bundle up in my own home; turn that heat up to 79!”
I keep the heat on 69-70 during the day, but that would just kill me when I'm trying to sleep. I prefer no higher than 66 for sleeping, that's what blankets and cats are for. I wouldn't mind going much lower either, but I don't think it's very efficient to let it drop to 60 all night and then reheat the house that many degrees.
Yes it is efficient and makes a big difference - I keep at 68F during day/night (when we're home) and 59F at night
We keep ours at 66-68F and we like it. My sister on the other hand, likes hers at 72-74 and when I visit her in cold weather I have to wear shorts and a T-shirt inside because it's just too darn hot for me. Do whatever makes you comfortable.
LOL.....I used to keep a set of shorts and a tank top at my Dad's house for the same reason, especially since when visiting an elderly parent you never know when you will end up doing some unplanned chore that will heat you up even more. {For that reason I kept a comfy old pair of tennis shoes at his house too.}
