Is it me, or is oil rubbed bronze losing popularity? I know it was a huge trend in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but it seems like it is less popular now. Some brands have discontinued select styles of fixtures in an ORB finish. Does anyone think ORB is now out of style?
It seems like Kohler is trying to start a new trend of rose gold plumbing fixtures, while Moen is betting on brushed gold. I wonder what will be the next trend.
Honestly I am surprised not to see a lot of stainless steel fixtures - no corrosion or plating difficulties.
There are those with faux stainless finishes, some made to have spot resistance. Technically there is a minor difference between a stainless steel and a brushed nickel finish - brushed nickel has a slightly warmer hue than stainless.
It appears that both Moen and Kohler are actually offering brushed gold. Brushed gold has a somewhat more rustic appearance than polished brass. Delta is offering the somewhat different but similar in feel Champagne Bronze.
Interestingly, we had all-ORB Moen faucets in our previous house, except for the kitchen faucet which was chrome. Our current house is stainless steel Delta, except the showerhead in my bathroom which is brushed nickel Moen (surprisingly I don't notice much difference in color with the stainless steel Delta fixtures even though brushed nickel is supposed to be warmer in hue).
I was always surprised that anyone wanted oil rubbed bronze fixtures. They are muddy brown color that rubs off so there are rub spots any place that it touched frequently.

My son bought a stainless steel kitchen faucet. It looks wonderful but it was outrageously expensive. So I suspect that cost has a lot to do with it.
Yes its out of style. If you have it and like it keep it. I had it previously and loved it now we are redoing the house we are going with brushed nickel. I think Gold or brass is something that will not last long.
Get what you like, who else ever looks at your plumbing fixtures anyway? And trends come and go, wait long enough and they'll be back around again.
If you get a 'standard' color such as chrome, should you at some point need or want to change a faucet, it would be easier to get another chrome faucet whereas if it's a 'trendy' color, it may not be available in a couple years when you'd perhaps be wanting a different faucet. Still, one would hope a faucet would last longer than that.
All I can tell you is that our house is ten years old and has all oil rubbed bronze fixtures in all the bathrooms and the kitchen. It also has black iron and oil rubbed bronze hardware throughout the house.
It would cost a fortune to replace it all and it's very functional, none of the finishes have worn off, etc. so we're keeping them - at least for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile we DID want to replace the master shower nozzle and controls, and the kitchen faucet, because we wanted a different type of water stream. We had no issues at all finding upgrades in the same finish.
