All of my contractors call or text before showing up, except the guys who did the siding on the house and garage. I knew those guys would be here at 7 AM sharp every day until the job was done, and they were on time without fail. My yard helpers call me the day before, or I call them, but then I've worked with them for a good 10 years so we're old friends at this point. They know how I roll.

Had this issue specifically with HVAC techs. Multiple times, multiple companies. Not sure what "else" they had to do, besides making a SCHEDULED appointment, but it must have been a higher priority to THEM. Notice I didn't say more important.

Absolutely unless it's just discussed before. It's the polite and professional thing to do.

OTOH, if this was a follow-up to assess work that needed to be redone, I think it's better if the contractor and client look at the questionable area together so they end up on the same page regarding the problem and solution. That saves a lot of headaches in the long run.

Thanks all for the responses. I figure I'll cut them some slack for now, since the job has not been completed, as long as they're out to check something or do something quick. If they are out all day, I would definitely expect to know in advance though.
