I wasn't sure where to ask this question, but I think this is the right forum. Anyway, my grandmother keeps asking, "When are we going to take the Christmas decorations down?" I don't know if it's because she's retired and more eager to get things done, but I always remember taking them down around New Years.
When I lived with my mother in Maryland, our neighbors across the street didn't take down their Christmas lights until mid April. I was a child at the time, so I thought it was kind of cool. Looking back now, I feel it was a little bit on the tacky side.
So to my fellow City-Data forum members, when do you take down your Christmas decorations? Feel free to answer the poll and leave any pertinent information!

For me--around January 1st; depending on what else is going on. But definitely the first week of January. I often wonder why people are so quick to take down the decorations--like the day after Christmas. One of my friends had her house cleared of Christmas decor by the afternoon of the 25th
I can only think of a couple of times I left up my decor till New Years. I have been known to take the stuff down late on Christmas day. This year it was the day after. I personally get tired of it all by the time Christmas day arrives. Its like a month long holiday and gets longer as the years go on. This year seemed especially bad as the stores were loaded with Christmas stuff right around Halloween. Ugh.
When I did, I put it up the weekend before Christmas and it came down the weekend after Christmas.
I don't understand people who put Christmas trees up shortly after Thanksgiving.
thank you--I don't get that either. Then of course they will be tired of them by Dec. 25th. I decorate around second week of December or around the 15th of the month.
I will take the lights and other decorations down the first week of January.....unless the weather is particularly bad.....then I will wait for a nice day......not too cold, no rain, no wind.
Inside or outside....I always use the lights until Jan. 1st.
If I go to the trouble of putting everything up....I intend to enjoy them for awhile.
Usually whenever the weather is pleasant during early to mid January. If there are no mild days then we just grit our teeth and take them down anyway. We stop turning the lights on after New Years, however. The tree inside stays up a little longer, probably until the end of January.
Our tree gets put up around December 10 or 15, and gets taken down January 2. For some inexplicable reason, de-decorating makes me sad, but it's sadder still to see the stuff up for very much longer than three weeks. That's long enough, in my opinion.
We don't do outdoor lights, so our take-down routine is pretty simple.
