If it was me, I'd put one of those toilet tablets in both tanks and I'd make it a point to use the 2nd toilet every few days or once a week.

His toilets are probably both disgusting under the rim where you can't see. I regularly clean ours but noticed under the rim the other day was nasty. I don't know how since they're regularly cleaned but I scrubbed the heck out of them and will now make it a point to make sure that gets scrubbed even more. I've never had this issue in any of my other houses. I guess it's due to our city water. I always had a well.

I don't see how it's difficult to just use it and flush it once a week. Put one of those tablets or little hanging bottles of cleaner in the tank to help keep it clean. If it's on a septic tank rather than sewer, be sure the tablet/cleaner is septic safe. I get hating to clean it if you have really hard water. I had water so hard once that I had to clean the toilets with a pumice bar every two months to get the calcium buildup off there. I hate the sound of pumice on porcelain, it's like fingernails on chalkboard.

I think someone is trying to be like Archie Bunker who used that term on All in the Family.

Eventually the water in the toilet will evaporate and he will get sewer/gas smell. You really want water in the bowl.

Unless you are disabled and physically getting to the 'extra' bathroom is an inconvenience (or dangerous based on your living situation) the best thing is to get some extra exercise by walking the extra bit or doing the stairs and using the other toilet for its intended purpose.

Make a game of it. For example, use one toilet for specific reading, so you force yourself to evacuate in a leisurely manner while setting upon the throne while reading your favorite literature.

I have two bathrooms and I find I tend based on my bio cycle to due light downloads (1kb) in the master commode since it is part of my morning and nighttime hygiene sequence. The other bathroom has more room (full bathroom with shower / tub) so, I tend to distribute heavy downloads (2MB) and thus is my 'reading' room.
