I have a 3.5 year old home. The toilet in the master bath has moved slightly so one side of the tank is about an inch farther from the back wall than the other side. Both the tank and the base. Since the laundry is on the other side of the wall, I believe vibration from the washer has caused this. As it is now, I cannot move the base so I think I’m going to have to loosen the floor bolts slightly in order to get it back square to the wall. But I’m worried I might mess up the wax ring somehow. Is this a possibility?
Edit: it’s very secure to the floor. Doesn’t rock at all. Just cockeyed to the wall.
I would remove the toilet and check the flange to be sure it’s not broken (as mentioned above) and make sure it’s at the right height. The flange should be flush with the adjacent flooring, or ideally 1/4 inch above the floor. (If it’s lower, you will need a spacer)
If all is correct, install a new wax ring, level (shim if necessary) and tighten the toilet to the flange and then caulk the toilet on the entire front and sides but only to the toilet bolts on both sides. This will help to secure the toilet as well as let water out when and if the wax seal leaks so that you can visually see if there’s a problem.
and replace with a wall-hung toilet.
This will help the economy as it is way more expensive than replacing a wax ring.
As always, you never fail…
…to over spend other’s monies!
