I am looking for a waterproof method of installing a 1" penetration in my roof. I would most likely do right below the peak of my roof. This is for running a cable through it.

Is there a reason why you couldn't take the cable in through a soffit or a gable end and get it where it needs to go? I expect a competent roofer would have the best answer...

There are several methods to do this, however as mentioned above, penetrations for utilities should be through the side or soffit area of your house.

If you explain what needs to pass through the roof/house you have a better chance of getting specific recommendations that will not cause future leaking or maintenance issues.

A small cable can possibly go through the side of the ridge vent. That's what I did with my OTA antenna and haven't had any problems. The fewer holes in a roof the better, as far as I'm concerned.

The area I am looking at doing this is a lower section of my house. The roof vents are in the higher section that I cannot get to. To get to the gable end I would have to be close to the edge of the roof which I don't want to be. I cannot reach this with a ladder so I would have to hang over the roof. It is the cable for a Starlink dish and I would need 1". I don't mind being on the roof, but I don't want to be at the edge.

I was thinking of getting a small pipe roof vent, run a small section of pipe with a u shape pipe connection on top. I could lift the shingle and slide this under it. https://www.lowes.com/pd/Oatey-1-1-2...ashing/1057441

My issue with this is how to secure the pipe. I cannot reach it from the attic. I would be able to drop the cable through the pipe to where I could reach it.

I would NOT go through the roof. Period.

Is there some reason you’re doing this installation yourself? Every time I’ve had something like this installed (and we’ve had three different dish companies in the past) the company has sent skilled people to install the dish.

Pitch pockets are for flat roofs and for a pitched roof, a “gooseneck” pvc pipe with sealant around the cable/wire would be a better choice if it had to penetrate the roof which is most likely avoidable!

This is what you want-

I’ve seen these used when satellite dishes are mounted in “non-standard” areas due to “line-of-sight” issues. They are rather easy to install with basic roofing skills and materials.
