Looking into them for my patio. Has anyone ever directly ordered the awning itself from SS directly to their house and had someone else install it? I got a quote from a local authorized SS dealer but they want almost 7.6k and another local awning company quoted 6.5k but it doesn't have the motorized front shade which is what we want. TIA
The same type of awning are used on park model mobile homes and even on RVs. They can be a manual set up or with a electric roll out. I don't know how much they charge or if they will install one on a regular house but they appear to be the same thing. You might want to call a RV place and ask about them. They also sell ones that will automatically roll up if there is too much wind so it doesn't get ripped off...that happens, I've actually seen it happen.

You know what you want and it does not havve it - what is the question?
The shades will fade. They are ok if your location is not too windy.
I was married to a man who knew, and could do, just about anything in household repairs, maintenance and the like. Now that I am a single, older woman, I want "one stop shopping". I do my research and then look into 3 businesses for the product I want. What I want is: them to do all the measuring and prep work, their employees to do the install, not contractors, and them to service the product if I have any issues or need service any time afterwards. This is worth the cost to me, peace of mind is priceless.
The windsensors are fickle, I would not "depend" on it to work as advertised. Retract it manually if wind kicks up, and never leave it extended and unattended.
I've seen many an RV with a failed automatic awning. The fabric is easy to replace, the mechanism and arms....not so much.
I bypassed the added labor cost and had a friend/experienced handyman do it for me. It was a total NIGHTMARE with poorly translated Chinese instructions and zillions of loose parts. Pay the extra to their contracted assemblers, so worth it.
