Our Sharp microwave open with a push button you press to unlock. It is now broke, with a half cooked potato in a bowl with water.
I have called Sharp to complain and ask them to tell me how to open the door, get the dishes out and recycle the thing. They are supposed to call me tomorrow. I hope to get a refund although I doubt I will get one. It is only a year old.
Apparently this is a common problem. I watched several videos to see how t0 insert a screwdriver and release the latch. No luck.
Anybody dealt with this problem and got it opened?

If this is electronic failure, you might try to unplug the microwave for few minutes then plug in again.

I hope Sharp gets back with you very soon - that potato could get "ripe" very soon.

We have what must be the cheapest GE microwave (we essentially only use it to heat water and leftovers, so no need to go expensive), above the regular range, and its door closure is just a friction close. You might want to consider changing brands unless fixing the door latch is a fairly cheap fix.
