I am currently planning on completely redoing my backyard landscaping. As far as planning the exact landscape design, I was hoping that someone could recommend an app or website that one could use to plan out a visual depiction of the yard after the work is complete. Any suggestions?

I use the previous version of this, but it's gotten a bit expensive (was $399 when I bought). But it's pretty amazing at what it does:

Of course, since I have it I could help you.

Rock, cactus, Astro-truf.
That can’t be that hard!

On a more serious note…
Contact the local extension service and find a local “Master Gardener”. A software program is only a “visual aid”. Be more complete with someone who can not only give you a “visual” but can also give you a list of native plantings, along with suggested groupings based on location/compass direction (shade)/etc.

Hire a landscape designer for a 2-hour consultation. Cost is minuscule compared with total costs. See what advice he/she has and if you want a complete design.
We did this and our project's total cost was $10K for a very small yard.

Talk to a local nursery/garden center. They may know of or post ads by knowledgeable landscapers who will know what works for your area...whether its low or high maintenance and depending on what you want out of it.
