My door is currently stained and since my home is colonial style, (and there is no roof or cover for the door ) the direct sunlight impacted the door stain negatively as shown in the picture compared to 3 years ago (as shown in the second picture).

It looks like I need to act on this quickly to prevent further damage to the door.

Please advise if it is a good idea to go with painting option instead of re-staining (OR) is it better to just re-stain as it could bring out antique look.

Can't really see much difference. Second photo is too small. If the previous stain was a penetrative type, you may be limited in what product you can apply over it. Obviously, you need to decide if you want the grain of the wood to show or not.
