Don't like my Hybrid. Should I just get a pillowtop topper? (heat, bedroom)

I just bought a DreamCloud hybrid and decided that I just don't like any memory foam. It makes me hot and I don't care for the feel. But I love the feel of traditional pillow tops, but I also know they can get matted down over time. Instead of selling and repurchasing a new mattress I was thinking of just purchasing a pillowtop topper for my hybrid. Would this solve my problem so it feels like a traditional pillowtop while also not retaining heat like the memory foam? Or will my body heat still reach the memory foam and make me warm?
I bought my son a hybrid mattress this summer. (Kingsdown is the brand.) He's a hot sleeper and he has not experienced anything like that - he loves it. I suppose you could try a topper and see if it works. Either that or spend $ on a new mattress.
"Memory" foam, whether it's in a topper or the main mattress itself is still made from the same closed cell foam material...the topper is just thinner. Because many people complain that memory foams tend to be too warm, I've seen newer variations that are supposedly better at dispersing body heat. Haven't tried them myself. I have read that putting natural fiber material pads (like wool or cotton) and using non-synthetic bedding over them helps because they're better at absorbing/wicking away perspiration.
FWIW, I had a pillow top mattress that matted down over time too. One major reason I wouldn't buy one again. Toppers are much less expensive to replace if you don't end up liking one. I picked up a new-in-the-box memory foam topper at a house sale and have used it for years. However, I know I tend to sleep warm so I don't heat my bedroom and I only use natural fiber bedding/blankets. That counteracts the memory foam's warmth pretty well except in summer.

I have a 3" thick topper on my mattress and I love it. I do sleep warm and can't use down comforters any more (I use a down "alternative" one) and my topper has never felt warm at all.
Select Comfort (the sleep number bed people) has a topper we love. It acts like a pillow top but is a memory foam and is cool. Part of the coolness comes from the fabric that encases the foam. There are some memory foam toppers that dissipate the body heat better than traditional memory foam. I’ve tried one that did well for heat but wasn’t very good as a memory foam. It was more like the cheap foam topper you gat at discount department store bedding department.
Yes, that is what I have read about memory-foam and some hybrid-mattresses, they can be
fairly uncomfortable to sleep in when it is warm/hot.
I was going to buy a memory-foam, but reconsidered, I hate being too hot when I sleep.
I saw really nice, 8-inch memory-foam mattresses at Walmart on clearance for $99 the
other day, tempted, but nope.
