How long should we wait to move back into our bedrooms to sleep? We just had new carpet installed today. We've had the ceiling fans on all day but I've heard to wait a day or two before sleeping in a room with newly installed carpet so the fumes can die down a bit. Is this sage advice?
For people who have had new carpet installed, how long did you wait to return to your bedrooms to sleep?

Slept in the bedroom that night. The carpet is going to smell new for a long time, just go for it...

Run the a/c fan on auto. start your bath vent fan.....and find the furthest window from the vent fan and crack it

New carpet stinks...and has some not so friendly chemicals that help make it....off gasing is a issue.

Keep the home in a lower pressure and keep a window open (clear path since air follows the path of least resistance) you will increase the air changes per hour dramatically.

Off-Gassing is actually a pretty minor issue unless you are especially sensitive to petroleum products or latex. Even if you are, your HVAC system turns over your ambient air about 20 times a day.

If you have an acute sensitivity to any of the materials, stay out of the room for 24 hours. As was mentioned by Donn2390, it will smell new, but the off -gassing will dissipate pretty quickly.

Thanks everyone. The 'off gassing' is done, I think. We have all moved back into our respective bedrooms and are enjoying the new carpet.
