Just thought I'd come back and give an update. We had a window in the crawlspace replaced. Noticed that the window looked ok but one side of the frame was rotted. Then it got cold and we had the heat on. Not sure if it was one of those things or a combination but the smell in the floor went away.

We still decided to have someone come in and do some thermal imaging to check for leaks and some air quality testing for mold. There's no visible mold and the tests came back within normal ranges. The guy basically chalked it up to the rains we had and the frame being rotted. Thought the moisture in the crawlspace was the issue and that it just took awhile for the air to clear once the window was replaced and the vapor barrier put down.

Thanks for the input

I have a 104 year old house. Our basement smells a bit damp (need to upgrade our dehumidifier). As a result, some of that odor comes through the very tiny spaces in our wood floor. We have carpeting in most areas, which stops odor from passing through, but early in the morning, I can still smell the basement in the room with the wood floor.

In my opinion, keep the basement at 30-50% humidity, and the smell should eventually (about a month) dissipate.
