I bought a water filter and when I went to put it on my faucet, I realized that I have a tamper proof faucet.

Looked online and it seems I need some sort of key, which of course I do not have.

How can I take the arerator off without the key?

Thank you.

check the brand and write or email the manufacturer to order a key. Or, call a plumber. Ask the plumber for a key, then you will have one next time.
Is the key an Allen Wrench? maybe that is what is being reffered to as a key.

Sounds like a moen product?

The "keys" always come with the fawcett in my experience. The problem is they don't often make it to the new home buyer.

I found a small pair of needle nosed pliers makes a good key for any tamper resistant faucet aerator .

Why in the heck would someone try to prevent the removal of the screen ("aerator")? I'd say grab the ring with some vise grips and unscrew it. But I am not really sure what it is that makes it "tamper proof". Maybe you need to buy a set of Torx bits?

Using it for smoking pot in a pipe comes to mind. Not that I would know anything about that... I would imagine it's huge issue in rentals.
