I have Bamboo floating stairs at my place and was thinking about applying some type of runner or covering on them. I think the regular runner would look kind of silly, any suggestions?

Do you mean stairs like this?
If so, I don't think a runner is the way to go.

Out of curiousity, what's the reasoning for the runner?

Do you ever get vertigo?

Just wanted something to preserve the wood in high traffic areas like stairs and landings.

I've seen in '60's houses with carpet that wraps completely around each stair with maybe a 2 inch gap on each side. If you were to do some really low pile industrial or berber carpet that way it might look cool.

My nephew has stairs like that. I think they're freaky, like you could fall off the edge and break something.

He covered the tops of his in genuine cowhide leather, cut to fit and glued. Looks great, much quieter, cushy under the feet and smells fantastic.

Our house has 170 year old stairs. There is some wear, but not much. I do nto think you need carpeting to protect the wood from wear. Even with new junky wood, you are not going to wear your steps down in your lifetime unless you wear shoes with sandpaper on the bottome. Go with your aesthetic preference.
