I called Brinks/Broadview... we already had an exisiting alarm that didnt work, we Just bought the home.

They want to charge me $403 for Premium Keypad, including labor and everything....

$289 for the low grade key pad which just dosent display letters and labor and everything included.

We havent had a break in, but we live on a corner lot my wife thought it would be a good idea...

The bad thing I didnt like was a 3 year contract at $42 a month...

What do you think guys?

Shop around, there are many companies out there. That sounds too high.

In this day and age when home invasions is becoming a "normal" method of operation of criminals, yes, a home alarm is worth it. It will not keep you safe but it will wake you and your neighbors up in the middle of the night if someone breaks in. It might be a deterrent, and it might give you time to get to a "safe place" in your home. It will give you and your family some measure of peace of mind.

Shop around. Price should not be the only consideration as it does no good to go with the cheapest price if they are not dependable to alert authorities. Also, check with your local PD so you know about any "alarm permit" requirements and any fines/limits on "false alarms".

Yes, shop around. Sounds like you already have the wiring on the windows and doors - that's a good thing - you won't have to pay for that.
I don't think I pay that much monthly for ADT here in Huntsville. However, when we bought our house, Brinks was slightly cheaper montly than ADT but the previous owners had ADT and we continued with them because we didn't have to replace the keypad (we would have had we chose Brinks).

Wow! Those prices are not right for a Broadview system and monitoring of a standard system with landline access to Broadview monitoring. You should call Cathy over at Broadview, 800-981-6349 Ext. 35452 and if they don't give an option for an extension select option 2. Cathy will square you away on the price.

As for having a security system I would say yes. I see you're in Mesquite. Just as any other place there are good and not so good areas there.

That would explain the higher monthly monitoring cost. If you do not have a landline at your house then they need to obtain the alarm monitoring, reporting, etc., function, using another access method. The more common way is via GSM (Cell service). They actually have a lower cost for this than many other companies. I also understand that they provide a significant discount on the additional GSM module that would be needed in the control panel to use the GSM option.

Give Cathy a call and she can work things out for you.
