Some friends of mine are redoing a house located in El Paso Texas in a historic area of town.
They just started the blog today. I've seen their stuff in the past and they are really creative. They aren't looking for business and Kevin is finishing architecture school. This may be of interest to follow it play by play.
This is not commercial - just fun and perhaps an exchange of ideas- so far there is only a picture of the view. The house is located on Florence in El Paso Texas 79902 on Google Map you can see the great rock wall surrounding it.
I wish them luck. We redid an old farm house a few years ago. We chose to hire a contractor (God bless him). It was still a hard project. It was beautiful when finished but, what a job!!!!

Yep.
About 10 years ago I remodeled, and built a couple additions onto, our 100+ year old farm house. It was tough. Nothing square, nothing straight, nothing level, nothing plumb.
Things turned out great, but I'm still not sure that I'd ever do that again.

I certainly apologize and have just sent the architect an email - hope he gets back to me tomorrow. I feel bad about it but like I said he wasn't doing this to look for business or any commercial stuff- Hope he responds soon.

Yep,
These old houses are a challenge, aren't they? LOL You can't mass-cut anything....1 piece at a time...and forget about cutting anything "square"...or it won't fit. LOL.....always a challenge. But gosh, when you complete a project, and it looks great....ahhhhh, what a relief! Hope you're having a great day Omaha!
The first thing they are doing is leveling the floors and they have ordered big picture windows- because the view of El Paso downtown and mountains is one of my favs.
Cool! El Paso is 35 miles away from me. I just completed a $264,000 remodel on an old adobe house in Las Cruces. I started it in 2003 by doing my own demolition and much of the finishing work. A partial second story of 600 sq feet was added. Obviously at the cost, all new mechanical and high end baths, etc. Kept the feel of an old adobe farm house. Get this: by proving to my insurance company the entire house was upgraded and re-wired, I dropped my rates from $2,000/yr to $1,200. If you like this sort of stuff, check out Old House Journal and of course, This Old House magazines. I have alot of respect for folks who are willing to tackle an extensive house remodel/restoration. Nothing beats the quality of an older home.
