Up until about 5 years ago, we didn't have street numbers here- mail was deliver through mailbox numbers and RFD numbers. So my mother used to have to make up a street address to get packages delivered (I think by UPS, but one of the delivery services), becuase she didn't have one.
We once had three different addresses for the same residence. Stationed at Bitburg Air Base, Germany, we lived off base. So we had the street address of our house for German and other European friends to use. We had our military "APO" address so U.S. friends could write us at an "American" address and pay domestic postage. Our post office box on base actually had a German address that we could've used also (for correspondence/packages from German & European senders)
When we bought our place, they needed to read the meter and get the account in our name (electrical). One guy came out to the ranch and couldn't find anything. Turns out, to read our meter, you check it 2 properties away where it comes in from some main line. The "normal" guy has it as like "2 down from xyz's old place" as the location. Glad THEY know, since I had no freakin' idea.
