We are getting new countertops installed next week, along with a dual integrated sink. The countertops are staron (corian).

I'm not sure if if the new sink will have a basket strainer included or I have to do this.

I threw away the old pvc pipes and garbage disposal, since they were YUCKY!

So I'm starting over from scratch. I have a dishwasher that will be connecting to the disposal.

I understand the disposal connects to one of the sinks and then a pipe connects to to the other sink with a T junction. Then that goes into a P trap and then out to the waste.

Is there a kit that will work with my setup? Will I need to cut PVC pipes? Does a hacksaw work well for this?

While I'm talking about this..... Is it worth spending $170 on a 5/8 HP dual grinding/auto reverse disposal? My wife wants this as it's more pretty (apparently she's under the sink a lot....) and better than the $100 1/2hp badger.

I just had a new disposal installed about a month ago by My Neighbor The Plumber. (I love being able to run across the street, yelling help )

The old one was 1/2 hp. Noisy sucker. It was only 8 years old and the metal had rotted from the inside out.

At his suggestion, I bought a 3/4 hp auto reverse with stainless steel insides (Insinkerator brand).

And the new one is so quiet

(So even if you end up getting the 1/2 hp, make sure it has the stainless steel insides!)

Generally, they do not.

Don't! But considering your previous setup you really don't have any choice (without major plumbing refit).

Since you're starting from scratch, do it right. Where the drain line comes out of the wall connect a sanitary tee, from there connect a trap to each end. One for the disposal and one for the other sink. Connect D/W to disposal per manufacturer instructions. Remember to loop discharge line up to the underside of the counter top (to prevent syphoning), support with a wall clamp.
Is there a kit that will work with my setup? Will I need to cut PVC pipes? Does a hacksaw work well for this?
Yes, there is a pre-packaged "kit"- worthless! It clogs a lot because of the way it is designed.
If you install as I stated above, yes on the hacksaw.

Not really. But, it's your money.
Good Luck-

We had a 1/2 hp disposal and it used to clog fairly regularly. When we remodeled, I bought a 3/4 hp disposal and I think it's clogged once in the last 4 years. This is one case where more power is better.

Go with the heavy duty disposal, you won't be sorry. As far as plumbing the drains, PVC is easy to work with. Just dry fit first. Your drain is a common setup that you should be able to find laid out on most DIY sites. A good hardware store should be able to set you up with everything you need.
