Hello everybody,

I got a one year job in Huntsville and will be moving to the Houston area no later than August. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for a place to rent. A few details:

- am single, don't have a lot of stuff, and not looking for a "family friendly" area

- if not in Houston, I'd like to be as close to it as possible, within easy access to I 45 of course

- can't see myself in a new development, but I'd like a safe area

- I have a couple of motorcycles so at least a car port if not a garage would be great

- if there's a park and a body of water not too far even better

- currently I'm paying around 600 for a nice 1 br in an old building, with a garage and storage unit. I hope I won't have to pay a fortune for something similar in the area.

Thanks in advance!

I would look at the Willis/Lake Conroe area if your interested in water activities. It is 70 miles from Houston to Huntsville so that would be a bit of a commute for ya every day.

Thanks! I will definitely look at those areas.

Given that technically I won't have to be in Huntsville more than four days a week, and only three in the spring, I'm still tempted to look in or near the north part of Houston.

Is there any area in north Houston that I should check out?

I would only go as low (south) as Spring or The Woodlands near Houston. The closer you get to Houston along hwy 45 the more shady it gets. Like the above poster stated, check out Conroe, especially if you like water activities.
