Hello everyone. My family is considering a move to the Houston area and I was wondering about family friendly towns near (within 20 miles of) the southwest side of town. My office is on 59 near the southwest edge of the loop.

My number one priority is a safe neighborhood/village/town for my 4 small children to live in.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I would say Bellaire or West University?

Houston is very unique in that a "safe" neighborhood can be literally a block away from a "dangerous" neighborhood - especially when you're talking about near the Loop.

It all depends on how much you're willing to spend on a house. Need a little more info to answer your question.

Sugar Land. You can get a larger home in a nice area for much less than close to the loop (that's nice).

Sorry, forgot to add my amount. I'm looking for something around $250k, but can go up to $300k if that's what it takes to put my family in a safer area.

Also, I don't mind a commute and I'm not really a "city guy", so anything 20 miles or so down the road is fine with me as well. Thanks.

The answer starts and ends with Sugarland. Sounds like it would be exactly what you're looking for. Only about 20 minutes from 59/610.

And you can get a LOT of house for $250K in Sugarland. $250K inside the Loop, on the other hand, can maybe get you a medium-sized loft.
