I just had to laugh at this one (http://www.ultimatekaty.com/2010/07/chamber-reapply-tourism-grant - broken link)! I live in Katy proper, and always attend this festival since it is almost in my backyard and I can hear all the noise from my home, but to call it a tourist destination? Even I have to say that is stretching it. And "Downtown Katy"? Really?

They hold a sit down dinner at the Kountry Kitchen, right?

When I lived in Beaumont, we would go to the Winnie Rice festival. Didn't know Katy had one, but I'm sure it's a big time.

Default Meh...

Well, I don't know if it is "bigtime", but it is fun. Maybe more so for me because I can walk there, drink lots of beer, and walk back home. It's really fun for the kids, and now and again they have decent bands. A long time ago, Clint Black used to play there, not that I am, or ever was a fan of his. Good for people watching, that is for sure. Most families disappear when it gets dark, and mostly adults drinking after that. If you've never been, I'd suggest to try it. It is probably the only time where you feel like Katy is a little community.

Did they at least have tomatos? The Katy Rice Festival that celebrates the rice production in the area (or what used to be) does not serve a single dish of any kind of rice. How sad, eh? I think of all the Asin rice dishes, jumbalaya, etc., and no one sells any.
