I am a 26yo F with a large herniation at L5-S1, I have had it for about 5 years now and tried everything!!

As of now i am on a medication called Opana(oxymorphone) and do not want to be on any narcotics!!

I was looking at a disc replacement, but insurance wont cover for it so I guess I have been pushed into a corner to have a fusion. I really need the best one in the Houston area. I work and love my job but can't do it anymore at this rate. Please help!!

I feel for you as I know first hand the pain that you are most likely in... I had a herniation at the same spot, no back pain but over the top pain going down my right leg. Tried chiro, traction, then had an epidural steroid injection (which gave immediate relief) only problem is the pain came right back within a few weeks.

Finally couldn't take it any longer and went in for surgery; I had a laminectomy though not a fusion. Dr. Kevin Moran did the surgery and it immediately took the pain away. Good luck getting through to his office though as they are hard to get a hold of (apparently he has plenty of bad backs lined up and doesn't actively pursue new ones).

Make sure and do physical therapy after you heal up otherwise the problem will probably re-surface down the road. Without stong core and back muscles to hold things together properly most folks will usually have future problems.

I sincerely hope you find relief soon and wish you well with getting better, I wouldnt wish that kind of pain on anyone...

Dr. Alfonso Aldama is extremely highly rated and a great doctor - all his patients love him.
