Are there any condos or nice hotels on the beach side of Seawall Dr,or is everything kept on the other side of the street? We always try to find places where we can walk out of the room and down a boardwalk to the sand, but it is hard to tell if this is available on Galveston Island,or if "beachfront" means across Seawall Dr.

I think everything along the seawall (hotels/condos) is on the other side of the street. There used to be a hotel on piers, but I'm not sure about the quality of the hotel. There are some private condos on the beach in other parts of the island though. Just not along the seawall.

Another interesting option would be to stay at one of the hotels in the Strand. Then you can just walk down the street to restaurants, shops, bars, etc.

The hotel on piers was the Flagship Hotel. It closed after it received a lot of damage during IKE.

All the hotels and condos along the seawall are across the street from the beach. If you are looking for nice hotels along the seawall, the San Luis Hotel/Condos are beautiful. Also, the Galvez Hotel is very nice. You might find something on the beach in the way of a house rental and there are some condo complexes (that will be located on the West End of the Island). On the far East End , there are some high rise condos...not sure of the name...might be located on the beach.

There ARE condos ON the beach side in Galveston. We always stay at Seascape and they are ON the beach. No crossing Seawall. Seascape was taken down to the studs after Ike and has been totally redone. There are two 3 story buildings and all pretty much have an ocean view. There is a large pool in the middle. If you look at a map of Galveston just when you see Seawall make a slight curve on the west side of city and more "beach" on the beach side, that is where Seascape is located.

Since Ike there was a new condo development built in the parking lot for the public beach next to Seascape. Further west is another condo development that is ON the beach, Escapes. It is further from everything though if that matters. It is newer but since Seascape was totally gutted it is just as new.

On the FAR east end of the island before the ferry is the Galvestonian. They are also on the beach as are the few others built down there.
