Well, it wasn't a very good day to go out and do pictures, but I was out and about anyway. Wanted to see what they did with Market Square. So I did.

In case you're not aware, this is the historic center of----well, I won't even say "downtown Houston" but Houston as a whole. There was a time, kid you not, when it was no less centralized than any other city. And this was where it was.

City Hall was here before it went where it is in the 1930s.

For everything that's gone down over the years, many of the older buildings around here remain. This is one of the few places to see Houston as it was, more or less, 80+ years ago.

I hope when the work's done and the weather's better that people will come check this out.

I'm even left under the impression that you'll be able to get a beer with your gyro or whatever you get from the Niko Niko's stand. That could be cool. In more ways than one.

Anyway, let's go check on another recent development concerning another part of Houston's history.

The JPMorgan Chase Building, or probably better known by its former name, the Gulf Building. There was a fire on the 27th floor on Monday evening, and it does appear there is some outside smoke damage. It looks like nothing irreparable, which is good, because this is the kind of thing they don't build anymore.

I could smell a lingering smoke odor as I walked outside the lobby door heading out.

Anyway, pretty short and sweet.

It was time to head home, so I did.

Until next time, have fun, or try to. It's a big city. Find something to do.

So yeah, happy 174th, Houston.

Great pics. But my god how Houston has changed in 20 years! I can't believe Warren's bar still survives! And there are people actually walking around downtown and the light rail train is full of people!

Could it be that downtown is no longer the reserve of office workers who vacate at 5pm and the down and out?

Been doing them for about three years now, so there's a pretty good chance there will be another one or three in the future.

To be fair, that was around 4pm. After closing time, it varies. Some pockets of activity, some pockets of non-activity.

The shot on the train was when it was going through the medical center. There had to be at least 50-60 people who piled on at the TMC-Dryden stop, and I was getting off at the next one (transit center). So I had to get up and make a move if I was going to get out from the back of the train.

All of it's a work in progress, but if you left ~20 years ago, it's different from what you remember.

Thanks everyone.

Oh, this trek actually began in Midtown where I went for a cheap haircut. Do we want more pictures? I thought so.

So, like I mentioned, the weather (like today) wasn't all that good. I guess it could've been 100+ degree heat index without the rain.

I've forgotten how many times I've been along Main and Fannin in Midtown with a camera, so I was mostly just goofing off. Everyone's seen what the streets look like.

Crackheads.

Right. Until next time, peace and taco grease. Thanks everyone.
