Has anyone in the Houston area have experience with this brand? I hear nothing but good things...the only down side i hear is that they are expensive...but you get what you pay for right.
Thanks.

Yes, the purchase price is high, but not the highest. The extended maintenance costs are low. Since these are typically in homes from 20 to 30 years without any major service issues, your overall costs are actually low. They are very highly efficient with salt and water use. This can be another advantage.

The twin-tank and non-electric technology has many advantages. As you said, they are often spoken highly of except, maybe, by the competition.

What are the advantages of using a water softener? My in-laws installed one and we've been staying there while we get our house ready and... I hate it. I hate the soft water. It makes me break out and I feel soapy even after I rinse off!

soft water is better for the skin an appliances and faucets. You dont get any of that crud. I also got a whole house filter system, and a reverse osmosis deionizing system system for drinking water.

Thanks.
Usually they are one of the three most expensive softeners on the market. What you get is a twin tank immediate regenerated softener meaning, there are two resin tanks and a separate salt tank.

You can buy the same type softener from many local or online independent dealers, using a Fleck 9000 or 9100 control valve, for far less money that lasts as long, and you can get parts from many dealers, local and online, as compared to the one'n only Kinetico dealer. And in many cases you can fix it yourself instead of being dependent on the one'n only Kinetico dealer for whatever they want to charge for the parts and their usually high priced service call.

The only part of a Kinetico that they make is the control valve. The tanks and resins are the same as most independent dealers use. And 99% of homes don't require or need a twin tank type softener because they have an hour and a half during the night when a regular softener can regenerate without something in the house using water. I'd suggest a correctly sized regular softener using the Clack WS-1 control valve. The size is based on the the number of family members, the number of bathrooms and type of fixtures in the house, and the constant SFR gpm required for the peak demand gpm flow rate of the house.
