Howdy joscoo. In my experience it's pretty good. You can find listings with my company at cpanel dot net slash jobs.

Good luck with your search.

I actually just moved to Houston and I have to say the economy is strong here. I put together a list of companies when I was applying. It took some time (about 8 weeks with no contacts here), and a lot of effort (eight hours a day, including weekends writing letters, sending resumes) but I was able to get a decent job here.

I'm not sure about the IT profession, as it all is pretty much Energy related here. But all those guys use computers, right? So I don't see why they wouldn't need IT professionals.

Take a look at the link directory I put together, it may be helpful you, if you're serious about coming down!

jobs

Good luck!

I work in the IT industry, and it goes both ways. How much experience do you have? The Houston area is saturated with IT professionals with A LOT of experience who are willing to take pay cuts. If you're straight out of college or have little to no experience, expect a job paying between 35 and 40k.

You can always test it out by hoping on indeed dot com or Houston craigslist to see for yourself...

The IT market has picked up a bit. I've had a couple of recruiters that I've worked with call me within the past few weeks. They told me that the market is picking up, but they will say just about anything to increase their business....

On a separate note, I am a Mechanical engineer with 5 years in semi conductor manufacturing industry. What areas/companies should I be looking for if I were to look for employment in Houston? I am not into heavy engineering like oil and ref type, so any recommendation will be appreciated.

Thanks
