We are considering moving to Houston within the next 6 to 9 months so that our son can attend the Monarch School which is located near the Sam Houston Tollway between 290 and I-10. Our younger son (1st grader) will be attending a public school, so we are considering the following criteria:

1. Proximity to the Monarch School
2. Proximity to a great public school district
3. Price range between 400k and 500k

Can you recommend any neighborhoods that might be a good fit?

Use the search engine at HAR.com. You search an interactive map and narrow the results by various criteria, such as price, size, garage, etc.

Another option is Cy-Fair or maybe some of those neighborhoods on North Eldridge.

What size of house will you be looking for?

Spring Branch School District is probably going to be your best bet in terms of good schools within 10 miles of Monarch. However, nicer houses zoned to exemplary elementary schools in Spring Branch mostly run in the $500k+ range.

If you do not mind a little further commute, Katy ISD and Cy-Fair ISD both have excellent schools and you will be able to get a lot more house for your money out there. However, you will probably be driving 20+ miles each way to Monarch.

Lakes on Eldridge in Cy-Fair ISD would be perfect in that it is a beautiful gated neighborhood right in the middle of your price range within 6 miles of Monarch. However, the public schools it feeds into (Kirk Elementary and Truitt Middle School) are not great.

For a single-family home, I second 77079. You'd probably want to stick with the Spring Branch ISD portion of that zip code. You might be able to find a spacious townhome in the tonier 77024 portion of the Spring Branch district within your price range. The public schools in that area are considered by many to be among the very best in the state.
