You might give a little thought to Clear Lake. Clubs, restaurants and water.

Okay okay, I get it! You guys are right, I was dreaming! Alright, so I looked in Pearland and there aren't many houses available to rent on HAR. Where else can I find homes available for rent? Our rent range would be $800-$1300, 2 bed, 2 bath, 1car garage. Fenced in yard would be ideal but not required. We have one cat and one medium sized dog. Should I look at townhomes? Here, in MN, townhomes generally have no yard at all and are very strict on pet policies. I didn't look at apartments because I can't imagine walking the dog out 3-4 times a day to find a yard for it's business.. We may end up staying at the place we rent, for up to 5 years.

btw.. I was 'OK' with the 1hour+ drive to Angleton as I will be looking for jobs in downtown by next summer..

Sorry Cheryjohns! I did not mean to ignore you. I may be wrong, but the reasons I skipped Clear Lake were:

It is an hour away from Angleton
If I was going to drive an hour, I'd rather be near Galleria, DT, Montrose, etc (based on reviews of those places on this forum)
It puts me further from Galleria/DT/etc. vs Pearland

The one benefit I am seeing from Google maps is that its close to the Ocean.. we love the ocean!

Hi beeloo! I live near Angleton. Living in Angleton is living In The Country. As is Alvin. And Lake Jackson. I live in Surfside because I love the ocean too. We have some young professionals who work with me, and yes, they have moved here, but they are in Houston EVERY weekend! Because there is nothing to do here, except go to the beach! Once you get to 288 your commute won't be too bad, because you are going against traffic both ways. And I find the restaurant choices here pretty limiting. Can't speak for Pearland but when I think of Pearland I think of married people settling down with their kids in planned communities. And lots of traffic. Go with your gut, and move to one of the funner places. Because it sounds like you don't "live to work" you "work to live" which really is a good frame of mind! See you on the beach!

You got that right! It is a hard decision for us, do I drive 1 hour+ everyday and stay close to the happening spots or do I stay in a suburb and drive a shorter distance? There are people like me on this board that understand where I am coming from and there are others that think it is not worth it... but then there are people like you, that make my day!

I would rather drive farther on the weekend for something fun than have to drive far every day for work. Do you go out often on weeknights?

I get what you're saying, but right now we're going to be renting, so this is probably a good time to find out! right? Rent for a year or two and if the driving is killing me, move to Pearland when the lease is over. If the driving is worth the fun then stay around the same neighborhood. Does that make sense? or are you saying that even a year would be so dreadful that in the middle of one night I would suddenly go alligator hunting with bare hands?

There are a lot of ads for rental homes in Pearland that are placed on bulletin boards in the medical center area, as well as in publications like Texas Medical Center News. There must be real estate agents or relocation companies specializing in medical center-related transfers who are aware of the "hidden market" for Pearland rental properties, but I don't know any off hand.

Yea, I was surprised to not see that many houses available for under $1300! I did contact the real estate agent suggested by the company. Hopefully she'll be able to find some. She also suggested to look at the area around Rice University. What do you think? I like its central location, but did not find many houses or townhomes under $1300 either. Very surprised..

Is 2bed, 2bath, tiny yard, 2 car garage a huge requirement? What should I change? Maybe there is a separate site for townhomes?
