Hi,

My husband has an employment opportunity to move to either Houston or NYC. I'm involved in a fashion retail business and I can't find information on which city would be better for the business. We also have an 18 month old, day care and schools are also a priority to us.

All suggestions and advice welcomed. Please help

Nope, the collections are directed to the American market, but a melting pot would be a plus.

How exactly are you involved? Are you a buyer? Self-employed? Do you want to open a boutique? I agree with the previous poster more specifics are needed to answer your question.

I'm self employed, looking for buyers in the fashion retail industry. I've been to NY and of course there’s a lot of opportunities there, but when compared to Houston..... I don't know. I’ve never been to Texas.

I just moved from NYC and frankly I do not know where best to sell you merchandise there. the only 2 places i can remember that people go to for clothing is the manhattan mall/macy's and soho. everything else 'affordable' no big name brands are in the other boroughs of NYC, and other residential zones... Newport Mall Jersey City, Jersey Gardens Elizabeth NJ, Livingston Mall, Woodbridge Mall, malls in Flushings, NY ... all got high foot traffic and I see non franchise stores thrive.
now if youre a supplier then NYC is a tough place.

I think in houston its going to be a little bit easier. Houston has more 'mega-towns' and supermalls and more people consider just part of their neighborhood, therefore more foot traffic everyday. I havent seen many places in houston but I definitely find the Katy Mall to be a good spot for a retail biz. Katy/Alief areas are definitely the melting pot of houston. First Colony Mall and other masterplanned areas ares great but too spreadout that one person looking into your window will be a good day for business . Same story with shopping on Westheimer, HillCroft (middleeast/south asian area). The 'HongKong' malls here are not happening places unlike the ones in Queens NYC

if youre a supplier then consider that houston has less seasons - no winter, winter sports, watersports, autumn/fall clothing here.
