So ill be moving to Houston in mid April and I'm super excited as well as nervous and would love if some of the locals could give me some tips. First what is the best area. Of Houston to live in? Mind you I'm 25 years old single gay male and ill be. Moving without a car so a place near public transportation and pedestrian friendly is highly preferred. I'm looking for safe affordable areas. Also I'm a nursing assistant and would. Like to know what are some of the nicer nursing home/ medical facilities to seek employment in the region. I'll be living with my best friend but we haven't decided on an area yet.

As others have said, your work location could change everything even more so without a car.

That said, I would also look into the Midtown area west of Main Street. There are a ton of restaurants, bars, and clubs within walking distance. You can also jump on the light rail to venture into downtown for a play or sporting event or go the other way to the museum district or Hermann Park.

If you are in the medical field without a car, I would surmise that you should probably be in the med center close to a bus stop. There are lots of people that take public transportation within that small area because parking is difficult in the med center so it is a more public transportation oriented area. The Rice Village area is more or less also in the med center and there are apartments in the area.

Just rent in the Montrose area. It is right down the street from the Medical Center.

I figure somwhere in the Montrose/Midtown area would have enough bus routes to get you to where you want and there's alot of eating and entertainment in the area walking wise. Looks like the 34 Montrose Crosstown goes from the Heights through Montrose ending in the Medical Center.
