In California, when you go through a curve on the freeways it is steeply banked to help maintain velocity and ease turning.

I've noticed in Texas the banks are almost negligible. For example, the US 59 South curve between Westpark and Bellaire. This is a pretty significant curve. I saw accidents all the time there due to people weaving out of lanes because they couldn't negotiate the curve.

I don't understand why the road design is poor. A lot of engineers from Texas boast their credentials, but where is it put into practice?

Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Because the freeway is not a race track.

Possibly the engineers aren't using their "Texas Instruments" very well.

I have little trouble maintaining 70 mph on the Westpark Curve on US 59. It has adequate superelevation for the design speed of the freeway. All Texas freeways are designed to the AASHTO Green Book standards in place at the time of their design.
