I just read that earlier yesterday myself. Wow, 20 freaking Office Buildings (With 3 Million Square Feet of Office Space), lets hope that they're mid-rise to high-rise level, well at least some of them (hopefully).

Also I really like the waterway and canal systems that they've got in the works, seems like they're master planning an entire corner of the city from scratch to make that area even more so desirable than it already is. Harris County & Montgomery County will boom like nuts based off that aspect alone. This wont be done for years to come though, so that gives Houston the appropriate time to get more office space leased in downtown and elsewhere to prepare for some cutbacks when this is done. Although I have heard that they're keeping some downtown operations too, but at this point they probably would cut back a bit too from there even if they don't pull out completely.

Greenspoint is a disturbing business center, it really needs a reinvention like fast. All of Houston's business centers are successful at what they do besides Greenspoint, they need to get on the ball and get moving already. I hope they fix up, and get to be a desirable location one day though, that area has lots of potential.

I don't think they'll be keeping a downtown presence. The whole idea of this complex is to centralize the offices and take advantage of all the benefits that go with that. Besides, their Bell St office was built half a century ago and would need a significant investment just to be 'up to code'.

I have always heard that they are keeping the Downtown offices. The only ones that will be staying (especially with the other energy companies there).

Work right next to Exxon (Travis and Bell). If they move their people, I know it would cut down considerably on jaywalking in downtown Houston. I don't know what it is about Exxon Employees, but they have no fear of cars. Seen many of them walk right out into traffic without even a glance, lol.

We'll see. They may or may not. Would make sense to keep Downtown employees for obvious reasons.

I'd actually say it makes less sense to keep it. Aside from the cost issues of having an out of date building, one of the big reasons they're doing this is to improve communication and cut down on daily travel for meetings between offices. If 90% of the company is in the Woodlands, but they still have to travel back and forth for meetings every day one of the biggest benefits is lost.

What good does a 'downtown presence' actually do?

To be closer to other clients Downtown. Makes absolutely no sense to vacate those ofices. Now, the chemical complex near Eldridge, the Greenspoint buildings. Etc., makes sense to move them into one location. Exxon emplyees at HAIF have said the DT offices are staying, and articles released on the campus have said the exact same thing.
