I would go with smith.

You are looking at a much higher cost with some of these "Name brands".

about a 50-60% increase in total cost actually.

Setup Fee $299
Uplink $49 (If you don't have a land line for home phone, you need to pay for this Uplink. If you have AT&T Uverse voice phone for your home, it is not a land line, so still have to pay the $49)
Installed two motion sensors for $158
Installed magnets for all my doors & windows for $80 (apparently, my builder didn't install magnet connection for all the doors & windows)
Tax for the above is $48.35

Total setup cost is $634.35.

Now I can enjoy the low monthly fee of $16.95.

ADT would have been happy to install that for you for free*

* 3 year contract at $50 a month required.

I use My Virtual Monitoring - Broadband Alarm Transmitter for VoIP Compatible Internet Alarm Monitoring Service for $8.99 a month and they work perfect. Besides is cool to be able to control my alarm from my iPhone or computer. Their response time is amazing. So why go to ADT?

I know that ADT has free installation, but you need to sign up for 3 years. If you calculate the total cost for 3 years, the total will be $1800 with ADT.
With Smith Thompson, $16.95 for 3 years will be $610.20. Plus the $634.35 setup cost, the total will be $1244.55 for 3 years, which is much less than ADT.
I don't think I will switch the alarm company, so it will cost less for me in the long run.

Ya my point was to show that paying for installation is not a bad deal because ADT will get you for more in the long run. I hate ADT and think they are a terrible company.
