^^ LOL! Actually, there is a lot of truth to waht diablogun said. Most of my friends (male and females) swear they will never date a psychologist again. The reason given usually goes like this "they had baggage and issues in the first place and that's how they chose psychology, to explain themselves. Then they try to overanlyze you and project their messed up interpretations on you." How many times have I heard this...lolol

So if they are dating, those psychologists aren't the happily married ones. I'm a happily married psychologist (13 years so far), as are my friends from grad school.

Good psychologists don't analyze anyone unless they are receiving a healthy fee for doing so...certainly not in social or dating settings. But if I had a dollar for everyone who said to me at a party, "Are you analyzing me right now?", I'd be rich. My husband jokes that I should make up a fake different career and tell people that's what I do, instead.

Being a *good* psychologist is a gift. (I can't even imagine listening to people's problems all day w/o going crazy.) And I believe you when you say that you don't analyze people who aren't your clients. But I also believe that many psychologists don't have this ability and balance in their lives.

Tell people you're a public school teacher. Then they can blame you for the downfall of western society...

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say, "Well, I bet you're a SWELL teacher, but gosh, most teachers are just IDIOTS..." then maybe I wouldn't be sweating the job situation so much.

I know...I wish people wouldn't do that. Why is it OK to slam all teachers but you don't hear people say, "You're in oil and gas? Most of them are greedy polluters," or, "You're a CPA? Accountants are so dull."

We are seriously off topic...hopefully the OP got some advice here that was helpful to her.
