Yeah, places like Montrose are much more conducive to biking, as are areas within certain towns (like Clear Lake, the Woodlands, etc.) Biking between towns, and/or along any major route designated for vehicles (i.e. major roads and the freeways) is really not a smart idea. It's too risky, plus you have to contend with the vehicle exhaust and the usual heat. There's usually no shade and no trees in those areas.

It's one of the major drawbacks to living in this huge Texas vehicle-loving city, where the vehicles reign, and bikes and people must yield and submit to. It's up to the bicylist to research and seek out the limited areas and choices.
