Hello all,
My son will be going to UTI in a week and will need a place to live while he is attending school. I have looking on line but am not having much luck. He is looking for a really cheap place to live - 1 bedroom, nothing fancy. Most of the apartments that i have seen all have pools and club houses and such. He will not need any of that. He just needs a safe location close to the school. if utilities are included, that would be even better. he will have a part time job while he is there so will not be able to afford too much. If anyone knows a free apartment locating service that really cares and can help us that would be appreciated as well. Thanks to all.

Sorry to say but cheap & safe near IAH do not go together. If he has a car, he needs to move further away to find the "safe" How much per month do you want to spend on rent?

well, if it is a 1 bedroom and he will be living by himself, i would like to keep the cost down to $300 or below. Is that an unreasonable assumption??? Thanks.

If you want him to live where it is safe, that is way too low. Perhaps call UTI and see if they have any sort of roommate matching for students. The area around IAH and Greenspoint is not a safe area.

I agree, way too low. I would suggest the safest place around there are the apartments along Beltway 8 east of hwy 59. Most of those are going to be much more expensive.

300 bucks is unreasonable in any part of the city. garage efficiency in a not so safe area or checking for roomates on craigslist or through his school. i've brought this up before but our long-term housing for the homeless costs them $375 a month

In Houston anything under $500 is having your son living in shootout city or with roommates of the Terminex Man variety.

$500 is pushing it too. $300 is WAAY too cheap.

To give you an idea, a one bedroom, one bath east of 59 on the beltway will run you 700-900$.
