Hi,

My wife & I have a 1 & 2 year old - and we'd like to drop them off for a day while we look around the city. Can anyone recommend a day-care facility & advise us what to expect for hour & day rates?

Thanks in advance.

There used to be a place facing Southwest Memorial Hospital on Beechnut near 59 but it's been many years since I took my oldest there and I don't remember the name. It mainly catered to the night shift parents that worked at the hospital. Not a very savory neighborhood, but the staff and security was excellent despite the run down look outside. I think you had to register before you just showed up.

There also used to be a place around Hwy 6 and Westheimer in one of the shopping centers, but same problem, it's been years and I don't remember the name or even know if it still exists.

There was also a day only location in the Galleria area (I think it was called Company Kids). You did have to check ahead to see if there was room available and the rates weren't cheap 9 years ago.

You might want to check Collaborative for Children in smartpages.com. It's a free referral service that should be able to find something for you.

Hope you enjoy your stay!

I am a former daycare provider on the NW side/Spring. Currently at The Childrens Courtyard, a very nice public daycare, rates are 45.00 per day, I know of a private home daycare that charges 30.00 per day. Collaboratives for children is a good referral service but most home daycares do not take drop ins.
These rates are per child.

Hourly rates are about 10.00 an hour... and I just remembered another licensed home daycare in Champions. Her rates are aroung 55.00 per day and she is very good..has a waiting list to get into her daycare. She only takes 4 children at a time. She also provides overnight care.

I couldn't find the name of the drop in day care for Houston that I knew about when I searched google but here's the name of the drop in day care that we used when we were house hunting - it's in Katy. It's called Itty Bitty City and there's a $60 registration fee and $9/hour for 1st child and $3/hour for additional children. My child has stayed there 3 times and he's like it. Meals and snacks are included.

I am lic. for day care in Cali. And me and my husband are thinking of moving to Houston where all of his family lives, does anyone know the process of getting lic. in Houston???? We have 2 2-year olds and I know that we can not afford childcare for the both of them so starting a day care is the best option. At least here in California. If anyone has an Idea on how to find out how to open a day care please let me know. At least maybe a web addy or phone number to place that can get me infromation.
