Things are cheaper here and you get bigger house for your money compare to other major cities.

That is just my experience. I live in Houston for more than 20 years.

Truth.

I always encourage people to goto opposite coasts for that very reason you mentioned. It's not a young person's city. The jobs here will not pay anything like Chicago, NYC, or San Francisco and the nightlife is dullsville by comparison.

A nice body of water. Granted the Pacific and Atlantic aren't perfect but there's more blue there and more brown here.

I almost fell into the Riverwalk once as a kid and I think I remember that nasty water looking better than Galveston.

Galveston Bay by Galveston is nasty nasty.

Further down going to Padre it gets a little bluer but it's still a nasty body of water.

DejaBlue, I must respectfully disagree with your post. I have lived for the past 30 years in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. I have been to beaches in Florida, the Carribean, Mexico, and South America. Most of these beaches were quite beautiful. Most (but not all) of these beaches were prettier than Galveston. However I didn't find Galveston Beach/Gulf of Mexico to be anywhere near as nasty as you describe. When I visited, the water was a greenish/brown. From what I understand the brown comes from sediment that floats in that direction from the Mississippi river. It is not pollution. I found Galveston Beach to be ok.

Texans you have nothing to be ashamed about.

I'm not wading in anything brown unless my street is flooding from hurricane/tropical storm whoever and I need to evacuate.

Those beaches are definitely prettier than Galveston. I knew Galveston first and was hesitant when I went to Florida then relieved. I've been to Destin and Tampa, FL which are right on the Gulf and that is better than Galveston.

I didn't know it was sediment. I always figured it was due to the refineries near by so I said nasty. It's still brown though and brown water is gross to me. Greenish-blue to blue. Any brown just no.

Why do you think that?????? I've read people's comments about Houston being boring, but no one ever explains why it is boring.

I think there are numerous problems with houston's nightlife. There is really no central location, people are into lame stuff here, no live music scene, unfavorble demographics, etc.

I did not read the other posts but IMO Houston for sure! The body of water is only a 30-45 minute drive on 45 South from downtown Houston. In Dallas you will feel land locked.

You really have to know H-town to know where you would want to associate. Houston is very diverse and you can find anything you want there. It is a great city full of interesting people. Dallas is OK but not nearly as diverse.
