Hi guys. We're looking to buy soon and are interested in the Briargrove area. However...we've noticed some of the homes currently listed have carports rather than garages... I don't see how people don't get their SUV wheels stolen with this kind of thing??

That said, what is the cost and time required to either:
a) put up an iron gate
&/or
b) build a garage in place of the carport. is this even allowed/possible? I know nothing about permits and builders.

Thanks!
MM

i would think they do away with the garage to increase the actual living space. But parking outside doesn't automatically mean you're going to have your car stolen, it's more about what side of town are you parked in, your neighborhood and/or what valuables you have in plain sight inside of your car!

Which Briargrove are you referring too? Briargrove near Tanglewood? I havent noticed many homes without Garages. But in any case, that is a nice area, and I dont think you have to worry about your rims.

Actually most have kept the garages. But some have taken the garage and made it into more living space. Most garage conversation are on the south side of San Felipe. North side has bigger lots, and most just add onto the house over there. No garage is a deal killer for me.

I know very few cars that were broken into if they were pulled all the way up into the property by the garage. Break-ins on the street? Sure. Most do put up an electric driveway gates. Those are narrow driveways, so a gate with motor will be around $2500+/- depending the style of motor you use, how fancy the gate, and if you need additional fence in that area. A new garage is over 30k, and I don't think there is way you can fit a new two car within the property lines.

I lived in Tanglewood and Briargrove a combined time of 13 years. Great place, but the traffic around there has tripled. LOL.

Thanks guys. Carports might not be the majority, but they seem to be for current listings. Would be nice if some additional choices would come on the market soon! Nothing is really wow-ing us at this point. Should note we are looking to stay in the 600's and sometimes the north side of the neighborhood is way higher so probably a no-go.

And yes, we mean Briargrove near Tanglewood. It IS a nice area, but my friend's neighbor in Memorial just had the rims and tires taken off of two vehicles in their driveway in the middle of the night. Very expensive day for them..ugh. Crime can happen anywhere I suppose.
